You’re moving into a home with security alarms
A new home may come with an installed home security system. All the components work, are placed in the correct places, and are ready to go. In this case, just turn on the phone to call and start a new monitoring contract. A Vivint professional will still come out to ensure there are no usability problems, and they could offer ideas on where you should replace bad outdated components. It's a quick appointment, and you can get your alarm monitoring set up without worrying about any new alarms and cameras -- unless you make additions.
The outgoing owners can give an existing Vivint contract to your family for a one-time transfer fee to make the process simpler. If the owners downsize to an apartment or retirement community, you keeping the home security service might be a part of the sale.
You want to move and take your old components with you
You might need to take your favorite smart devices with you to your new place when you move. Luckily, it's pretty simple to do, as modern components are wireless. You can uninstall each component yourself or call a Vivint expert to dismantle your devices. Then a pro will put in the same features -- and any smart services you want to add -- in your new home. The home security contract will remain the same.
